UNILINK Team Conducts On-Site Study of Ethiopia’s Coffee Industry
UNILINK Conducts Field Research on Ethiopian Green Coffee Beans
From January 24 to 26, Mr. Yu Xiaochun, Chairman of UNILINK, together with Bella, Marketing Director, led a team to Ethiopia to conduct on-site visits and research with local coffee suppliers.
As the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia is Africa’s largest coffee producer, with an annual output of approximately 600,000 tonnes and more than 25 million people engaged in the coffee industry. Coffee grown on the East African highlands is known for its distinctive floral and fruity flavor profiles, giving Ethiopian coffee a strong identity and an important position in the global coffee market.

During the visit, the UNILINK team conducted in-depth assessments of green coffee bean quality and quality-control systems, and held detailed discussions with local suppliers on key topics including grading standards, processing methods, and trade models. Several Ethiopian coffee companies expressed strong interest in expanding into the Chinese market through the UNILINK platform, and showed great enthusiasm for the new opportunities created by UNILINK’s digitalized trade model, which simplifies processes and improves transaction efficiency.

In recent years, Ethiopian green coffee beans have gained increasing acceptance and popularity in China, driven by their unique flavor characteristics and steadily growing consumer demand. At the same time, China’s zero-tariff policy for selected African agricultural products has created favorable conditions for Ethiopian coffee exports to China. Supported by both market demand and policy incentives, UNILINK is confident in the long-term prospects for China–Ethiopia cooperation across the coffee value chain.

Looking ahead, UNILINK will continue to organize overseas field research and supplier engagement activities, further strengthening collaboration with high-quality global supply chains. Through its digital trading platform, UNILINK aims to support the development of the coffee industry and a wider range of soft commodities, actively contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative and promoting mutually beneficial international trade.
